[Image: Two screen caps of news clips from stories of Hurricane Katrina. The first has a picture of a young Black man in deep water, hauling things in his arms. on the right and the story reads: “A young man walks through chest deep flood water after looting a grocery store in New Orleans on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005. Flood waters continue to rise in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina did extensive damage when it…” The word looting is circled in red. The bottom screencap shows a white couple, a man and a woman with backpacks in deep water, the woman in front is carrying something through the water. The text next to that picture reads: “Two residents wade through chest-deep water after finding bread and soda from a local grocery store after Hurricane Katina came through the area in New Orleans, Louisiana.” The word finding is circled in red.]
will never forget this ever.
white privilege means that no matter what you will always bee seen as basically good.
I was just thinking about this the other day. The obvious discrimination in this country has given me a strong stomach.
I’m just laughing right now.
Because it reminds me of the fucking article written in that paper about how three Black kids “made it away with EIGHTY DOLLARS!!!!! in snacks”. Just framing that $80 as if it was so much money they were rivaling Bernie Madoff. Let’s not even go into how they’ll probably do similar time over that fucking eighty dollars.
Disgusting. The world is rotting.
rotting? i think its already rotted through and through.
That was a poor attempt at me to reference Yagami Light’s similar line.
This right here is such a perfect example of how racism and bigotry show themselves in the slightest nuances, the ones that the privileged never have to pay attention to.
Though both photos show people doing the same thing - surviving during a disaster - one is framed as being a criminal for taking basic necessities such as food and things to drink and the other is framed as being resourceful.
The message is clear: white people’s survival by any means is good. PoC survival by any means is criminal.
So next time anyone wants to argue that even the smallest word choices can’t be a big damn deal, I’m showing them this and then booting them out of my existence until they get a clue.

Slut” is how we vilify a woman for exercising her right to say “yes”. “Friendzone” is how we vilify a woman for exercising her right to say “no”.

Today, I did a thing. I sent letters and condoms to my governor and state assemblyperson to discuss how I feel about this:

Government-funded researchers tested AIDS drugs on hundreds of foster children over the past two decades, often without providing them a basic protection afforded in federal law and required by some states, an Associated Press review has found.
Government tested AIDS drugs on foster kids - Health - AIDS - msnbc.com
(found via facebook)—oh, look—foster care is necessary for an entirely unrelated industry! doesn’t that make it *REALLY WEIRD* that so many young children of color are being taken away from their parents!?!? and that parents losing custody are being shipped to entirely different countries so they have no power to get in the way of industry needs?
(via midwestmountainmama)
and the majority of these foster kids were poor and of color. of course.
